A Mind Is A Terrible Thing To Waste — The UNCF Motto
Keeping your mind exercised and strong is a noble endeavor. Here are some things I do.
Puzzle & Logic Games
I believe puzzle games engage the mind in a healthy way. Puzzles are a healthy way to keep your mind sharp. And potentially delay dementia!
Every morning I like to socially solve the New York Times Connections and Thinky Games Dailies.
Some of my favorite video games are puzzle games:
- The Witness
- Braid
- Myst
- Picross
Philosophy via Secular Theology
Throughout my life I have always felt most comfortable with existentialism, stoicism, and humanism.
While I do not subscribe to any theology or belief in a supernatural being, the various religions still can offer secular benefits.
In Christianity, I appreciate Jesus' teachings of compassion, forgiveness, humility, and servitude.
In Judaism, I appreciate not doing work and spending time with family like on the Sabbath.
I have a very Western centric viewpoint, which would explain why these particular religions would have influence on me. I am not discrediting the benefits of Islamism, Hinduism, etc. by not listing them.
However lately I have been spending some time contemplating Buddhism. Or more specifically secular buddhism.
The practice of the koan has especially stricken a chord in me. I intend to continue practicing koans.
